For everyone who had/has problems with the Ubuntu and the latest updates of "Lightning" and "Provider for google".

What are the symptons:

  • You cannot add a local or a network calendar to lightning.
  • You don't see any calendars after the upgrade
  • .... something that looks like anything you find in google matching these items.

Here a small howto how to keep your google calendar working in thunderbird.

  • Make sure you have installed thunderbird

sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird

  • Make sure you have uninstalled any version of "provider for google calendar" and lightning.
  • Install lightning through the ubuntu (7.10) process (apt, or via "Applications - Add/remove")

sudo apt-get install lightning-extension

  • Download version 2.1 of provider for google calendar and install it through the "add ons" of thunderbird.
  • Restart thunderbird and you're able to enjoy your calendar again in Ubuntu 7.10.
