I have a Kinesis Keyboard which looks a bit like this. (I have a dual legend keyboard, with Dvorak) It is a programmable keyboard. I'm writing this because I had a problem with it. All of a sudden a couple of keys weren't working anymore. I contacted the techcenter at kinesis and they told me how to fix it. Below is the Email What I would like you to do is to disconnect both the right & left function rows from the main circuit board and then test the keyboard and see if the same problem occurs. Instructions: Remove the six screws in the back of the keyboard and separate the top half of keyboard from the bottom. Once you have the keyboard opened, locate the Left & Right Function row strips (Esc-F8, F9-Progrm). Detach the Mylar (clear/blue plastic) circuit boards from the main board. NOTE: You will notice there is a White Connector linking the mylar strip to the main circuit board. You will need to loosen the locking flange on the white connector in order to detach the mylar strip. Once the Function strips are detached, reconnect your keyboard to the computer and test the keyboard. See if you can reproduce the problems. If you cannot, this means there is a short in either the Left or Right function row and should be repaired/replaced. If this is the case I can send you a replacement top case that has the function rows already installed and all you need to do is transfer the components of the keyboard to the new case (should only take 5 minutes and all that is required is a Phillips screwdriver). Please let me know the results of the test.
I tested this and it worked. After this I cleaned the mylar strips and reconnect them. All of my keys are now working again. Thanks Kinesis! |
